A new issue, a new adviser
So last issue had me frustrated beyond belief. Yes, the staff was much nicer to each other, but the paper was a little painful to read knowing the ability of the people writing it. So, enter the new Barrett.
I am micromanaging the work of the newspaper staff. I overlook the story assignments. I ask every staff member what stories they are writing. Then I ask what they are doing today in class. Then I suggest, very strongly, okay demand, that they set up an interview during the period. So far, I have a few people annoyed, maybe even angry, with me. However, I also have a lot of people ahead on their stories.
Tomorrow is deadline #1. I feel very confident that the majority of the staff will meet the deadline with 2 interviews or 1 observation per story. Those who do not make the deadline miss it because they did not do what they were told or advised to do.
My hope is that my editors will start to copy my behavior and not just depend on it. I'm really ready for someone to step up.
